The Learning & Skill Development (LSD) organization plays a key role in installing a digital culture and mindset across the Commercial and Medical Group (CMG) as well as providing every CMG customer - be it employee, manager, healthcare provider, and patient - with the information and skills that they need next, when they need it, where they need it. LSD is in the process of transforming CMG into a continuous then contribution learning culture by pioneering advances in skills management, digital learning, experiential learning, and workflow learning.
The Opportunity
Instructional Design Managers will manage a team of multiple Instructional Designers and Media Designers. They are first and foremost, people managers who are responsible for hiring, developing and managing a team of Instructional Designers and Media Designers in order to effectively develop and design training that will meet the business needs of the organization. They have experience in Instructional Design or related learning design and development (see below paragraph) in order to effectively manage and assign workload appropriately from the pool of IDs. They will have people management experience and have demonstrated effectiveness in performance management, development and resource management.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop a positive culture and inclusive workplace by embodying operating principles, enhancing employee engagement, and fostering belonging.
Oversee resource management, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and performance management of a team.
Provide coaching, professional development, performance reviews, and succession planning for team members.
Foster cross-functional collaboration within LSD, CMG, and Genentech to ensure alignment and effective implementation of learning solutions.
Manage team resources and workload, ensuring project completion, addressing risks, and maintaining compliance with laws and company policies.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor degree in instructional design, educational technology or related field.
3+ years experience as an instructional designer or senior instructional designer
2+ years people management experience or indirect/direct people manager experience leading workstreams, agile working teams or rotational leadership
2+ years demonstrated experience leading and navigating across a matrixed team and can quickly organize functional teams to design and develop learning projects
2+ years of employee performance management experience assigning people resources effectively to projects
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex projects simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication, deliver presentations to department peers and L&SD LT.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
Masters in instructional design, educational technology or related field, 3+ years in instructional design, 3+ years people management experience
This position is based out of our South San Francisco campus and offers a hybrid work schedule, working 3 days per week in the office. Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $148,100 - $275,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
