Instructional Designer, Temporary - School of Nursing

About the Work Unit:

Our research mission is to transform the discipline of nursing through research, practice and partnerships and to contribute to the social advancement and health of Tennessee, the nation, and the world. Vanderbilt School of Nursing (VUSN) supports the development of innovative research programs within VUSN that align strategically with other Vanderbilt University initiatives and that address national priorities to promote and protect health. The Center for Research Development and Scholarship supports many activities related to pre-award and post-award, federal, and non-federal grant submission and other scholarship activities.  

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

1.          Guides the course and curriculum development process to ensure that quality standards are met in compliance with program accreditation standards

             a.   Assists in the development and/or revisions of course mapping, course level design, and unit level learning objectives
             b.    Uses database-driven tools to maximize efficiency in course development and evaluation activities
             c.   Update and maintain course-related records and data to ensure accurate reporting for academic leadership
             d.   Applies visual design elements to online course components, documents, and forms

2.          Build and create interactive and engaging courses within the Learning Management System to help facilitate effective online learning experiences 

             a.   Provides feedback to instructors regarding instructional strategies, teaching, and learning resources
             b.   Reviews courses for quality, interactivity and consistency
             c.   Implements the Quality Maters framework for the promotion of excellence
             d.   Communicates with other HRSA SANE: ENPs CARE staff and faculty for the creative deployment of instructional graphics, images, banners, videos, animations and                      infographics to support learning goals

3.          Promotes the use of the university-selected course-based management system

             a. Contributes to online Knowledgebase those content areas that would provide just-in-time learning for users of the course-based management system

4.          Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in instructional design methodologies, technologies, and e-learning practices to ensure the integration of                            innovative and effective instructional strategies.

             a.    Seeks resources to meet identified learning needs  

Education and Certifications:

•    Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience or equivalent education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
•    A Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.
•    Previous teaching, training or working experience in instructional design, or an instructional design degree is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

•    Proven working experience in instructional design with instructional technology is required.
•    Knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models is required.
•    Solid knowledge of course development, lesson and curriculum planning skills is required.
•    Knowledge of Learning Management Systems required.
•    Ability to write effective instructional text, audio and storyboards is strongly preferred.
