The Instructional Designer will be responsible for partnering with faculty, administrators, staff, and external partners (e.g., instructional design firms, online program managers) to ensure the realization of instructional efforts. As part of Wagner’s Academic Programs team, the ideal candidate will conceptualize, design, develop, and implement online learning and teaching projects for the School’s various academic programs, as well as evaluate instructional materials and modes of delivery (e.g., hybrid, blended, fully online). They will apply a deep knowledge of pedagogical strategies and the creative use of instructional design/technology principles to improve teaching and learning, and will assess tools to address faculty members’ instructional goals. In addition, the Instructional Designer will train faculty and staff in the use of technologies available at NYU, as well as new or emerging technologies and technologies utilized by external partners. This position will also closely partner and collaborate, with NYU’s Instructional Technology community, and will be a part of their community of practice.

Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree or higher in educational media or educational technology

Required Experience:
5+ years 5 years of demonstrated professional experience in instructional design/education technology with a focus on online programs and distance education. Must have professional experience: •Presenting, discussing, and applying educational theory into practice •Using one or more learning management systems •Designing graphical elements of web applications •Working independently, as well as cooperatively, with faculty, administrators, staff, and external vendors (e.g., instructional design firms, online program managers) •Collaborating with information technology professionals on joint projects

Preferred Experience:
Working with faculty, administrators, and staff in a higher education institution is preferred, especially developing and/or supporting research and teaching innovation. University- level teaching experience. Experience in cultivating digital communities.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, designing, developing, delivering, and supporting technology-enhanced educational efforts using instructional design processes Ability to train faculty and provide guidance on processes and best practices in instructional technology efforts. Competence building courses within a LMS/MOOC/CMS platform using HTML and CSS. Writing and Communication o Excellent written and oral communication skills o Capability to write, copyedit, and proofread instructional materials and documentation, as well as to create and/or follow style guides Project Management o Strength in scaling, coordinating, scheduling, reviewing, tracking, troubleshooting, and adapting project efforts o Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, on multiple projects simultaneously. High level of interpersonal and team building skills. Ability to apply creative solutions to problems and new initiatives

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of the learning analytics landscape. Knowledge and use of graphic development tools (Photoshop, Illustrator). Familiarity with Javascript, Unity, digital video editing software (Final Cut Pro, Avid), and animation software. Utilizing audio and video codecs and image file formats. Knowledge of Tin Can (Experience) API and SCORM. E-Learning course creation authoring tools (Captivate, Storyline, and/or similar). Creation and management of issues using Jira or other project management systems. Applying knowledge of the features and tools of NYU's LMS. Building courses within NYU's LMS using HTML and CSS. Asset research and management. Experience with data visualization tools. Assessment and application of copyright and usage terms.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $80,000.00 to USD $90,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
