Location: Binghamton, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Mon Mar 10 2025 Job Description: Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL-2) Salary: $49,261 The Department of Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy at Binghamton University (State University of New York, https://binghamton.edu/physics/) seeks an outstanding candidate for the position of Instructional Support Associate. The initial appointment is for up to three years, beginning September 1, 2025, with the possibility of renewal. The Instructional Support Associate plays a critical function in support of the Department's educationally related programs, providing skilled, specialized assistance to faculty, staff and students. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: + Provide support in the operation of the Department's academic laboratories + Design, set up, test, and validate experimental setups for laboratory classes (both for traditional and online programs) + Assist faculty and staff in ensuring that academic laboratories support the department's curriculum + Update instructional manuals for publication + Provide instruction in the use of equipment and materials to graduate and undergraduate students working in teaching laboratories + Conduct laboratory safety training for students enrolled in laboratory courses + Assist in developing new content for the department's laboratory courses + Manage student teaching assistants assigned to the operation of departmental labs + Manage the daily operations of the instructional labs + Serve on college and university-wide committees as needed Job Requirements: + Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or a related discipline + Minimum of 2 years working in an instructional, research, or manufacturing environment + Fabrication experience with conventional machine tools, 3D printing, and/or soldering + Ability to design, fabricate, and assemble devices + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills + Ability to prepare and conduct workshops, training materials, or presentations using typical office software + Cultural competency and ability to work collegially with all constituents of the university's community Preferred: + Thorough knowledge of laboratory and equipment safety + Thorough knowledge of electronic and mechanical equipment, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance + Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the progress of technical projects + Ability to assist in the review and preparation of specifications for technical equipment + Available and willing to work a flexible schedule as needed, including days, evenings, and some weekends + Ability to travel in support of the Department's needs (training, meetings, etc.), when needed Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Additional Information: Offers of employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check and verification of degree(s) and credentials.
