Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 08/01/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to serve the academic unit, college and/or University. The Instructor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective January 1 2007, the Instructor rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains and the Greenwood Laboratory School. Description of Primary Duties Facilitates student learning (e.g. creating a learning environment, integrating technology, arranging field trips, organizing age appropriate activities, etc.) for the purpose of achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans. Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study. Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Maintain high expectations for self and others; set and monitor progress toward goals; and utilize and offer effective feedback to continuously improve. Work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; and apply logical processes and analytical skills. Maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities. Teaching assignment will include courses/grades: Chemistry, Physics, or other sciences in grades 8-12.


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.  Additional Qualifications A Master’s degree or higher in a teaching or education related field of study is required. Significant coursework in the area of Chemistry, Physics, and/or sciences is required. Prior teaching experience with secondary students is required.
