Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor - Doctoral Capstone Coordinator OT CHS
**Job Description** **Location:** Chicago, IL **Hospital:** RUSH University Medical Center **Department:** Occupational Therapy-CHS **Work Type:** Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0) **Shift:** **Shift 1** **Work Schedule:** 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 4:00:00 PM) **Summary:** The Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor is an open rank position in the Department of Occupational Therapy. The faculty member will develop and teach occupational therapy courses, provide academic advising, supervise student research, provide mentorship for the doctoral experience/capstone project and support the mission of the institution through teaching, scholarship, research practice and service. Faculty members exemplify the teacher-practitioner-investigator model by following excellent teaching practices, research standards, and professional behaviors consistent with the mission of Rush University. **Other information:** Knowledge 1.Must meet the academic requirements of the appointed rank per University Rules for Governance (lecturer, assistant, instructor, assistant/associate professor or professor) to assure competency and proficiency in rank. 2.Advanced clinical or content expertise in an area of practice, teaching or research. 3.Mental health experience is strongly preferred. Skills 1.Demonstrate record of excellence in oral and written communication and dissemination of information to advance the profession. 2.Basic computer skills and familiarity with current information technology to use student databases, to maintain data files and to engage in research. 3. Maintains CPR certification to act effectively in patient care and at Rush University Medical Center. 4.Maintain Level II HES competencies to assure effectiveness in hospital setting. 5.Competent/certified in use of unit clinical outcome measures to support outcomes research and evidence based practices. Abilities 1.Must be able to physically hand carry items throughout the medical center complex, associated buildings and academic office areas to manage information flow. 2.Must be able to lift, carry, and move items up to 20 pounds upon occasion to assist with inventory management. 3.Must be able to stand, walk, lift and push while assisting with patient care to engage in clinical and educational activities. **Eligibility:** 1.Certified by NBCOT as an OTR. 2.5 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist (preferred). 3.Doctoral degree required, this degree does not have to be in occupational therapy, from a regionally accredited university; doctoral candidates may be considered. 4.Current OT licensure by State of Illinois. 5.Intermediate to advanced clinical skills in primary area of teaching. 6.Eligible for faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level or above or Instructor level if working toward Assistant Professor appointment. **Responsibilities:** Teaching 1.As course director, it is the responsibility of the faculty to: a.Prepare and abide by the course syllabus stating outcome expectations in behavioral terms whenever possible. b.Serve as a resource person and facilitator in the learning process. c.Provide evaluations that are appropriate, equitable, professional and provide constructive feedback to the student. d.Exhibit objectivity in all dealings with students and in all aspects of the learning process. e.Continually adapt teaching strategies in the implementation of the course to meet the needs of all students. f.Incorporate class readings and/or supplemental materials that reflect current practice and are evidence-based whenever possible. 2.Treat confidential information about students, colleagues and others with fairness, discretion and integrity. 3.Develop and maintain proficiency in teaching areas through investigation, formal education, continuing education, and/or practice. 4.Participate in evaluation of teaching methods and curriculum, and modify both in response to feedback. 5.Serve as academic advisor. 6.Serve as doctoral experience/capstone project mentor, as appropriate. 7.Maintain office hours consistent with Faculty Handbook and to accommodate needs of students, faculty and staff. Research 1.Supervise student graduate research projects. 2.Contribute to the advancement of OT through research, practice, and/or service. 3.Evaluate and incorporate emerging research findings and technology into teaching, research and publications. 4.Pursues opportunities to publish/present occupational therapy/research activities. Practice 1.Support practitioner-teacher-investigator model of practice of the department. 2.Maintain currency with health care trends, research, and OT practice, especially as it relates to area of expertise. 3.Assist with clinical instruction of students as appropriate. Service 1.Participate in Rush University governance and/or occupational therapy department, College of Health Sciences, Rush University and Rush University Medical Center committees. 2.Participate as needed in service opportunities in the occupational therapy department, College of Health Sciences, Rush University, Rush University Medical Center and the community. Professional 1.Demonstrate personal and professional integrity to the institute, college and department. 2.Carry out assigned duties with punctuality and professional competence. Except in cases of emergency, they shall not be absent from their assigned teaching or other assignments without first informing the Department Chair or the appropriate administrator. 3.All faculty and administrative staff holding academic rank are expected to conform to all rules and regulations Rush University may adopt or enact concerning their position and assigned responsibilities. All faculty shall be furnished a copy of such rules and regulations when they are appointed. 4.Maintain active membership in state and national professional associations. 5.Collaborate in and contribute to the preparation of academic reports and accreditation self-studies. 6.Prepare and implement a faculty development plan annually. 7.Responsibilities of faculty within the roles of practitioner, teacher, and investigator will be negotiated annually with department chair. 8.Performs additional duties as assigned. **Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
