Instructor of Songwriting

The Songwriting Department at Belmont University is seeking applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor, beginning August 1, 2025.

Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate songwriting courses and participation in academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and college and university service. Master’s degree is preferred. Well-qualified applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with progress toward and demonstrated intent to pursue a Master’s degree may be considered. 5 to 10 years of experience as a professional songwriter is required. Priority will be given to applicants with industry honors e.g., Grammy, CMA, ACM, Dove, IBMA, Novello, Juno, CCMA, Stellar, Emmy, etc. Preference will be given to candidates with major, independent, viral or streaming equivalent success (Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) as well as charted songs (Billboard, iTunes, etc.) and/or sync placements of songs in film, television, and major streaming platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) Teaching experience is preferred but not required. Expectations include a comprehensive knowledge of and experience in commercial songwriting, music publishing, music production, and other aspects of the entertainment and music business.  A majority of the songwriting classes include elements of production for the purposes of song demos and masters for sync placement so knowledge of Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or other similar software, is important to this role. The position requires the following abilities:

Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.Skills in the use of computers, recording software, plugins, and internet resources.Ability to learn relevant sections of Belmont University's online integrated database systems for student records management.Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators, educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.Ability to engage with the music and entertainment industries.
