This position primarily works with courses in the general and ecological/organismal areas. Primary work includes coordination of introductory lab sections for large introductory courses with supervision of graduate teaching assistants and adjunct lab instructors, teaching of introductory non-majors course lectures (Biological Sciences, Northern Ecosystems), and instruction of introductory labs and student support courses. This position also oversees student employees and coordinates student access to building facilities. This is a campus based position. Minimum Qualifications Required Education:Master's Degree Discipline/Degree Area: Ecological, environmental, evolutionary, or organismal biology Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Required Minimum Work Experience: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: Ability and desire to teach introductory, non-majors biology courses Ability to coordinate laboratories for large introductory courses, including supervision of lab instructors Ability and interest in teaching student support courses for introductory science students Must have excellent time management skills and be able to complete required tasks on time Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to assess student learning outcomes Ability to work well with an instructional team, including but not limited to fellow instructors and graduate teaching assistants Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills Commitment to excellence in undergraduate education Ability and willingness to participate in departmental activities including safety training and student access to facilities Additional Desirable Qualifications Additional Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching experience in introductory biology or introductory ecology Research experience in some area of ecology or environmental biology Strong natural history skills relevant to the Upper Peninsula Commitment to the mission of a public comprehensive university Other Special Instructions to Applicants: All applications must include the faculty application, cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching philosophy (2-page limit, single spaced).
