JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a highly motivated, professional, collaborative, student-centered individual to join the education leadership team in the Department of Public Health Sciences as an Instructor, also known as the Associate Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Successful candidates for this position will be responsible for the following tasks:
+ Coordinate with other PSU campuses, as necessary, to maintain and expand the MPH program including IUGs, joint degrees, and online programs
+ Development and approval of new programs related to the MPH program
+ Coordinate with the Penn State Graduate School to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures
+ Contribute to the preparation and monitoring of the MPH program budget
+ Provide academic advising to assigned students; assess other needs and make professional referrals; maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records; guide students in course selection and scheduling; assist in resolving academic problems; identify and monitor academic progress
+ Host walk-in and zoom advising meetings to assist students in navigating University policies, procedures, and program curriculum requirements, and assist with student degree progress
+ Serve as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, campus, and University constituents
+ Work with faculty to establish career focused mentoring activities
+ Contribute to student recruitment and retention
+ Asist in preparation of reports, surveys and other documentation
+ Maintain communication with student organizations to encourage active leadership and promote events
+ Provide student/alumni career advising
+ Participate in coordination of new student orientation programs
+ Coordinate with PHS Alumni to build relationships to enhance engaged learning opportunities
+ Contribute to advising committees and/or working groups related to areas that may include student success, diversity and inclusion, assessment and evaluation, academic policies, and/or staff development including Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation activities
+ Serve on MPH Admissions Committee
+ Opportunities for teaching based on applicant qualifications
This is a limited-term non-tenure line position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.
Qualifications
This position requires a master’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in public health or related field is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Word, Excel, and Canvas is desirable.
