The Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies, a member of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, is seeking an outstanding candidate for an Instructor/Research, Non-Tenure Track faculty position.
The potential candidate will be involved in studying novel metabolic regulators and their functional impact on metabolism, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease. A major portion of the research responsibilities will be to design, conduct, and report on studies related to the grant funds and applications. In addition to research, the position also requires training summer students, graduate students, and research assistants inside the lab. Some previous mentoring experience is required for this job.
The details are as follows:
• Initiate and participate in the design, execution, and evaluation of innovative research projects on the role of metabolic regulators in aging, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Some related experimental methods, including brain section, immunostaining, and behavior tests are required for this job.
• Manage ongoing projects initiated by the Principal Investigator.
• Perform and prepare the preliminary data for the Principal Investigator to apply for research grants from federal agencies, foundations, and pharmaceutical companies.
• Coordinate and collaborate in grant writing efforts with designated individuals and other collaborators.
• Develop analyzing plans and draft statistical analysis for descriptive statistics and advanced analysis techniques, organize and maintain databases.
• A candidate with previous experience in mouse handling and surgery is preferred.
• Manage the lab, order supplies, and supervise the students and research assistants.
• Encouraged to take advantage of the many educational and professional development opportunities (e.g., grant writing workshops) at UT Health San Antonio and to engage in professional networking.
• Expected to apply for external research grants from different foundations (AHA, ADA, AFAR) and federal agencies (NIH and DOD) to support the ongoing research programs in the lab. Previous grantsmanship is preferred.
Candidates for the position must hold a PhD degree in biology and/or biochemistry.
