Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

The purpose of this position:

To perform a very wide variety of maintenance tasks including but not limited to electrical and mechanical maintenance work such as: Installation, fabrication, assembly, set-up, diagnosis, preventive, predictive maintenance, troubleshooting maintenance work on plant equipment, services and facilities requiring the use of hand and maintenance tools and skills.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Works from schematics, prints, sketches, written and verbal instructions. Performs work on energized lines, circuits and connections with a wide range of voltages including 110V, 220V and 440V. May work with voltages up to 12,500V at distribution equipment. Makes hot cutovers as necessary. Operates a wide variety of equipment such as: various grinders, hand brake, mechanical alignment devices, rigging equipment, bearing pulling/pressing equipment, drills, gauges, meters, feelers, voltmeters, scopes, and other specialized electrical diagnostic equipment, micrometers, industrial fork trucks, hand trucks, machine tools, carts, ladders, lifts, etc.   Provide cross training for other skilled trades. May be a member of a work group or team that utilizes some business skills such as: writing and entering work orders, material purchasing, project coordination, quotes and estimates, use of computers in performance of duties, etc Requirements: This position has a skill/certification module. The specific skill requirements for each module appear in the certification documentation. Module 1 includes such duties as: Works independently, coordinates PMs, rebuilds, shutdowns, tasks and other employees as required; displays innovativeness when dealing with complex problems; trains other in required; displays innovativeness when dealing with complex problems; trains others in maintenance techniques designed for sensitive processes. Works as a member of a team; writes process documentation; prepares maintenance projects and layouts, interfaces with customers, vendors and suppliers; responsible for the quality of work, timeliness, work methods, practices, etc. (As additional modules are defined, the description will be updated for evaluation purposes.)

 

Education/Job Requirements: 

High school or GED required Must have equivalent to a 2 year Electrical Associate Degree and at least 8,000 on the job hours or > than 4 years’ experience. Must be willing to work rotating shift schedule The successful candidate must pass a "Fit for Duty" exam designed for the I/E Job Description.

The starting pay for this position is ​$35.55 hourly rate.  Compensation and benefits available for this position are dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
