S&B is currently seeking a Instrument Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for independently conducting Instrument Engineering activities for projects of significant size and complexity, such as continuing services projects involving multiple engineering disciplines. The individual must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of Instrument Engineering and possess the ability to apply independent judgment when evaluating, selecting, and making substantial adaptations and modifications to standard design engineering criteria, methods, and procedures. Additionally, periodic evaluation of work completed by less experienced engineers will be necessary. This position requires a thorough understanding of Project Management requirements, including staffing and scheduling.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will provide some technical guidance for less experienced drafting or engineering personnel.
EDUCATION
Normally requires at least a four-year degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a minimum of seven (8) years experience in Instrument Engineering (or equivalent working knowledge/experience). This includes proficiency in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. preferred plant experience
Familiarity with ISA (International Society of Automation) standards and local regulatory requirements.
SIS experience will be is a plus
Tools experience - Smart plant In-tools, MS office suite, Teams
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads instrument effort to provide project Instrument Design Engineering (FEL and detail) for small to medium sized projects by working with project managers *project team members, end users and other design discipline engineers / design leaders.Supports Site Capital Projects executed by site or area project managersProvides engineering technical support during all phases of project execution. (Design, construction, commissioning and startup)May recommend alternate scope or alternate instrument design solutionsSpecifies Instruments and instrument requirements for equipmentCoordinates this activity with area maintenance personnelObtains Vendor Quotes and provides technical support for procurement process for instrumentsInstrument design engineer to review quotes with project manager. PRs to be created by engineering support office.Provides technical assistance for commissioning / startup / constructionInterfaces with purchasing for Alliance contractsCoordinates this activity with area maintenance personnelProvides quality checks of IFA packagesCross-checks between design disciplinesCollaborates with operations, maintenance, construction personnel, and vendors to provide technical assistance, support, and guidance in solving problems and implementing improvements, at the site.Coordinates design details and deliverables with outside engineering firms.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally may visit an operating plant or construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
