Instrument Engineering Technician I
Position Summary This engineering technician performs tasks of basic to moderate scope to support the key objectives of the Service Engineering group. The technician will troubleshoot systems and components to determine root cause of failures to report their documented findings within the Service group and to other business sectors. This technician will support daily operations in the Service departments in SLC and Italy by offering technical expertise to technicians, maintaining equipment, and communicating technician needs to management for improvements. Internal instrument repair and configuration management will be performed by engineering technicians. This may include performing study protocols, offering feedback on serviceability, collecting failure data and other engineering tasks related to instrument repair. The technician will serve as a resource to address issues of legacy system configurations and will create and update Service documents to that purpose as well as regular document maintenance. Primary Duties + Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System. + Represent the engineering group in repair technician team meetings to offer expertise on troubleshooting and Service workflow training. + Provide on-demand troubleshooting support to repair technicians. + Support help requests originating from satellite repair centers to support standard repair activities. + Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical components of instruments characterized as early failures and document root causes. + Notify management of potential risks in existing documents, and propose corrections. + Notify management of opportunities for repair process improvements, and propose corrections. + Represent the Service department as a product expert in cross-functional teams. Report on findings from instrument investigations, part reliability, study results, and offer expertise from the perspective of instrument repair. + Review part and process changes that may compromise compatibility for older instrument configurations that are actively serviced. Propose mitigations to the gaps recognized. + Perform repair and configuration management activities in the Service lab and other BioFire locations as needed on instruments of non-standard configuration such as validation, research, or engineering test instruments. + Follow verification or study protocols to test software, instruments, and systems and accurately record test data and addendums. Training, Education, and Experience + Position requires an associate’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline. + Minimum of one years’ experience repairing complex systems or medical devices. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities + Technician is required to use specialized equipment, accurately record test data, follow work instructions, and effectively interface with other BioMerieux departments and leadership. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. + Must be proficient in Office and able to learn other software as necessary. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements + Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods. + Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
