The Instrument Equipment Technician decontaminates processes, reassembles, and sterilizes all instruments that are used in the operating room. Selects appropriate surgical case supplies depending on the requirement.

Job Description

This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. GENERAL DUTIES

Processes surgical instruments and supplies and uses appropriate techniques in handling instruments to avoid injury.Ensures all the required instruments are on the tray by counting each instrument and verifying count in instrument tracking system.Decontaminates surgical instrumentation and resets instrument trays.Analyzes the outcome of the sterilization process to determine success and recalls loads if there is a discrepancy in the process.Reports breakage, missing instruments, supplies and equipment to the management.Demonstrates an awareness of precautions necessary in handling soiled instruments and equipment.Repairs, validates, and performs preventive maintenance of instruments based on written procedures and training received.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience in equipment sterilization or Instrument or Operating Room Aide or Tech.
