Job Description:
Overview:
The Instrument Operator I is responsible for operating surveying instruments and assisting the Party Chief in conducting field surveys. This position is part of a three-person crew and supports the successful completion of land surveying projects.
Responsibilities:
Load and unload surveying supplies and equipment from trucks.
Inspect and test survey equipment to ensure proper functionality.
Operate surveying instruments such as data collectors, Total Stations, levels, and GPS-RTK Receivers under supervision.
Conduct field work to determine the location of natural and man-made features on land surfaces.
Assist in gathering precise measurements of lines, angles, points, areas, elevations, and boundaries.
Compile notes, sketches, and records of survey data and work performed.
Provide basic guidance to Rodmen as directed by the Party Chief.
Perform additional survey tasks as directed by the Party Chief.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED certification.
2-4 years of experience in land surveying or a related role.
Basic ability to operate and obtain land survey data using surveying instruments.
Ability to perform minor field calculations and analyze spatial and technical data.
Familiarity with land surveying procedures.
Ability to work effectively in a team and follow directions from supervisors.
Physical ability to lift and carry survey equipment up to 35 lbs. and work in various terrains and weather conditions.
Dependable and reliable.
