Position Summary

Under general supervision, but in accordance with established policies and procedures, provides instruction/training to other department personnel regarding surgical instrumentation and case carts including identification, cleaning/ handling, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage.

 

Job Responsibilities

Decontamination of surgical instruments and equipment using detergents and disinfecting solutions. Assembly and preparation of instruments and supplies for sterilization by checking all instruments for visible cleanliness, flexibility, and proper function; assembly of instrument trays according to specific instruments, procedures, including specialty trays; utilization of cleaning ultrasonic cleaner and other equipment associated with proper cleaning of instruments. Proper wrapping, sealing, and labeling of instruments, supplies, and equipment for sterilization and labeling of trays.

 

Education/Experience

High school diploma or GED Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of two years of technical training as an instrument technician Certification from an accredited Instrument Technician Program
