Instrumentation & Controls Engineer Intern City Chattanooga State TN Country United States Area of Interest Engineering Type Part Time - Temporary Job ID 2024-13171 Business Group Nuclear Power Group Department Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Description As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to existing power plant systems, components, and structures and are a synergistic integration of both electrical and mechanical engineering along with control theoryWorking under the direction of senior engineers, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in with electronic process sensors, digital controllers, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines and reactors to improve the functionality of nuclear power plantsAssist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designsWork on a variety of tasks associated with project reporting, such as tracking and evaluating project activities, project progress, and associated data

Essential skills and experience:

Must be actively enrolled in a BS or MS engineering program from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background and courseworkMust be graduating by Spring 2027Coursework in Mechanical and Electrical engineeringGood verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills

 

Valued but not required skills and experience:

Prior, related internship or co-op experience is preferredCoursework and/or experience in mechatronics and/or roboticsMinimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design
