Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer to join our Eastman corporate engineering team. As the   instrumentation and control engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of instrumentation and control engineering design and technical support, ensuring their successful execution. Your expertise in instrumentation and control engineering principles, combined with your leadership, management skills and extensive experience in the chemical industry, will be crucial in leading a team of engineers and designers to drive teamwork, innovations and successful project execution.

 

•    Lead and manage a team of instrumentation and control engineers and designers and provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support. 
•    Oversee the planning, design, and execution of instrumentation and control engineering scope of work, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including all engineering disciplines, project managers, operations, and procurement, to ensure seamless project integration and successful project delivery.
•    Manage the execution of instrumentation and control engineering scope of work inhouse and at the selected engineering service provider in all phases (Pre-FEED, FEED and Detail Design).
•    Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and risk assessments to evaluate project viability and propose appropriate engineering solutions.
•    Review and approve engineering designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to project requirements.
•    Monitor project progress, identify potential issues or delays, and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure timely project delivery.
•    Provide technical support and guidance to operations and to the construction team addressing any instrumentation and control engineering-related issues or challenges that arise.
•    Stay updated with the latest advancements and trends in instrumentation and control engineering and identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement within the organization.
•    Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional development among the engineering team.
•    Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and promote a safe working environment.
•    Active participation in professionals engineering societies and related Industry standards committees such as NFPA, ANSI, NEC, PIP or others.
•    Mentor and develop emerging talent. 
•    Support the company strategies and drive change as identified by the organization.  

Qualifications


•    Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electronic, Electrical, Instrument/Control preferred) or a related field.  
•    Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, with a focus on Chemical industry projects.
•    Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control engineering principles, practices, codes, and regulations.
•    Proven experience in leading and managing a team of engineers and designers, with excellent leadership and communication skills.
•    Ability to mentor and develop less experienced team members.
•    In-depth understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
•    Proficiency in engineering design software and tools, such as Intools, Bluebeam, Navisworks, AVEVA Engineering or equivalent and other engineering design software, to support instrumentation and control engineering activities and enhance project efficiency.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose innovative and practical engineering solutions.
•    Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•    Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, such as ISO, ANSI, IEEE, NFPA 70, NEC, and other applicable codes, in the design and evaluation of instrumentation and control systems and equipment. 
•    Experience managing change with cross functional teams and stakeholders to ensure successful development and implementation of new processes.
•    Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
