The Marathon Petroleum Salt Lake City Refinery is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation/Electrical Technician to join our team. Under the general direction of the Maintenance Foreman, I&E Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and construction of instrument and electrical systems, devices, and peripheral equipment. I&E Technicians are directly responsible for troubleshooting, problem identification, and repair of instruments/electrical used in the refinery process control.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTroubleshoot, diagnose and assess performance of instruments and electrical systems.
Safe work practices to ensure safety is a fundamental part of every task, which includes following all safety procedures and maintaining good housekeeping practices.
Make repairs based on assessments.
Identify root cause or failure mechanisms of instrument and electrical systems.
Verbal and written reporting on as-found and as-left conditions.
Install instrumentation sensing and signal wires in accordance with documented standards.
Conducts high voltage switching and grounding distribution systems
Terminates motor connections
Troubleshoots motor controls
Reads loop diagrams, logic diagrams, P&IDs
Ability to respond to refinery needs outside of normally scheduled work hours and take ownership of all work performed.
Requires regular attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMinimum (Required) Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must have six years of verifiable Instrument/Electrical work experience.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the facility and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
Must be able to support irregular or extended work hours and call-out situations when needed.
Understanding of the theory behind instrument devices (including pneumatic, analog, and digital electronics) control valves, and control systems.
Understanding of controllers and tuning parameters.
Understanding electrical systems and power distribution from 480V-13.8KV
Knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements including but not limited to Process Safety Management (PSM), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Petroleum Institute (API), National Electrical Code (NEC), Environmental Standards and other applicable regulations.
Strong interpersonal skills including strong oral and writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Ability to perform work in team and individual environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a recognized Instrument/Electrical Apprenticeship program/trade school preferred.
Instrument/Electrical work experience in a refining, petrochemical, or other related industry preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and SAP preferred.
Physical Requirements
All Maintenance Craft positions work in various environmental conditions in the refinery. This may include but is not limited to working indoors, such as in maintenance shops, outdoors in open areas, process units, at heights and in confined spaces with or without respiratory protection and limited mobility. Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and carry 50-pounds.
Safety
Maintenance Craft Employees work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and a background check.
Schedule
Maintenance Craft Employees work a four-ten (Monday thru Thursday) schedule and must be available for overtime on call as required.
Pay and Benefits
Pay range is between $47.75 and $51.74 per hour with highly competitive benefits including:
Annual Bonus plan that applies to all annual eligible earnings with a target of 6% - 12% of your annual income.
401k plan with Company match of 7% on 6% employee contribution.
Cash balance pension plan of 7%, 9%, 11% depending on age and years of service.
Paid vacation, sick and holidays - 3 weeks of vacation, 7 sick days and 10 paid holidays.
