Instrumentation Technician

Job Title: Instrumentation Technician 

Job Summary: 

The instrumentation technician performs maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation equipment such as level sensor indicators, industrial electrical circuitry, motor control circuits, VFD’s, and plant utility equipment. The qualified technician is proficient in industrial electricity and has worked with motor control circuits, VFD’s, and instrumentation in a manufacturing or industrial environment. The successful technicians is knowledgeable in the articles of NFPA 70E and subparts of OSHA 29CFR1926.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Perform scheduled and un-scheduled electrical troubleshooting, repairs, and calibrations Perform installation of industrial electrical and instrumentation equipment Perform minor repairs on mechanical equipment Update daily maintenance status in SAP and other reporting systems. Attend and complete assigned safety and compliance training Complete safe work permits and pre-task planning for all assigned jobs

Qualifications:  

Proficiency in using proper electrical measuring devices including digital multimeters, 4-20 ma meters, RTS and thermocouple meters, pressure simulation meters, and similar instrument calibration equipment.

Experience using clamp meters, meggers, and loop simulators.

Ability to work on circuits from 24VDC to 480 VAC to locate and remedy power failures or short circuits.

Proficiency working on motor control circuits, VFD’s, and controllers.

Understands electrical drawings and control panel schematics.

Programming and configuration of programmable logic controllers and distributed process control systems.

Education and Other Requirements: 

HS diploma and college, vocational degree or certification, or equivalent experience in industrial electricity and instrumentation. Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial instrumentation. Drivers license; OSHA 10 or 30 hour card. Able to read and write English. Ability to work by reading OEM technical manuals and electrical schematics.

Able to lift 50 pounds. Climb ladders and stairs.

Work Environment:

The work environment can be hot and humid in the summer and cold in the winter. Hardhats, safety glasses, gloves, long sleeves, steel- toed shoes and FRC clothing are the minimum PPE requirement at all times. Hazards are identified throughout plant safety and protection.
