Insurance Follow Up Representative
**Job Summary** The Insurance Follow-up Representative position is responsible for all insurance follow up on assigned accounts from the scheduling team. The core responsibilities of an insurance follow-up representative include insurance verification, confirming and/or submitting insurance authorizations and identification to ensure all proper account information is listed. The most crucial part of this position is to confirm with the insurance company and/or physicians office that all insurance follow up has been completed before the patients test is completed. **Essential Functions** + Schedules patients accurately, with less than a 3% error rate + Obtains accurate information in regard to patient demographics and insurance information; registers patients accurately with less than a 3% error rate + Reviews each registration for accuracy of demographics, insurance information and computer codes, making any necessary corrections; communicates with medical records and/or the business office to make appropriate corrections as necessary + Processes pre-registration documents, and forwards to appropriate department + Communicates effectively with third party vendor + Thoroughly explains the hospital’s policy regarding payment at time of service when scheduling patients + Distributes schedule to appropriate departments at end of the day for next business day + Documents all pertinent information in computer notes for billers and/or collectors + Refers self-pay patients to Financial Counselor (FC) and provides FC with an accurate face sheet + Provides reports or information from scheduling data as requested + Performs other duties as assigned. + Complies with all policies and standards. **Qualifications** + H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent required + 2-4 years of registration/clerical experience in a hospital or other healthcare environment preferred **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Ability to read and write in English. + Good judgment, excellent problem-solving techniques and organization skills. + Knowledge of and experience with data entry. + Computer literate and able to type a minimum of 50 words/minute. + Medical terminology and understanding of insurance. + Ability to use numeric key pad efficiently.
