**Overview**
**Purpose Statement/Position Summary:** The Intake Coordinator provides support for the intake of all new patient referrals received and is responsible for providing customer service to community physicians referring their patients to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Responsible for call processing related to all activities of the physician referral call center number. Follows policies and guidelines for gathering the standard missing documentation needed for a complete referral to be processed. Serves as a liaison to the referring primary care provider’s office and patients and families to obtain the additional requirements to complete a referral. Enters patient/guarantor/insurance information in CHLA systems (as available). Responsible for maintaining medical record integrity by reviewing and updating documents into patient’s records, while maintaining confidentiality of those patient’s medical records. Organizes, updates, and maintains a worklist documenting progressing on tasks. Answers and screens incoming calls, takes and relays messages to specialty clinics and inputs information into patient’s referral file, as needed. Handles all referrals with a strong sense of customer service to patients, families and providers. Serves as the primary liaison between patient, CHLA, and community referring providers. In answering questions regarding their referrals. Answers and screens incoming calls while providing excellent customer service.
**Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:** 5+ years’ experience in a healthcare setting managing referrals and registration for patients; direct call center experience preferred.
+ Proven knowledge and experience within a hospital environment.
+ Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
+ Fast and accurate typing skills with minimal errors.
+ Excellent customer service and professional communication skills with team members, external providers, and patients’ families.
+ Ability to adapt to a hybrid work environment with minimal supervision.
+ Responsible for maintaining medical records and ensuring patient privacy within the EMR system.
+ Ability to manage high volumes of incoming calls daily.
+ Meticulous attention to detail when processing referrals.
+ Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and empathy when assisting patient families during phone calls.
**Education/Licensure/Certification:** High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of medical terminology coursework preferred.
**Pay Scale Information**
$49,504.00-$85,394.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
