Responsibilities\:
The successful candidate shall provide support to the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) as the Discipline Lead Engineer for the areas of integrated avionics systems engineering (hardware and software) and systems management and shall be responsible for leading MAV program coordination within the Space Systems Department (SSD).
Duties include, but may not be limited to, the following\:
Coordinating scheduling; coordinating meetings; tracking action items; directing planning activities and trade studies; performing systems analyses; supporting integrated hardware and software design solutions, evaluation, and test; making technical risk management assessments; coordinating technical performance measures; supporting and coordinating reviews, working groups and boards; and providing periodic status inputs to project and ES management.The successful candidate shall\:
Provide engineering insight of the MAV integrated avionics in support of vendor avionics development.Draw upon all necessary government and successful candidate organizations supporting the SSD (ES) and MAV Program as appropriate to complete assigned tasks.
Specific responsibilities for the MAV Integrated Avionics (IA) Discipline Lead include but may not be limited to the following\:
Manage workforce allocation in support of MAV insight.
Lead weekly technical team meetings to coordinate tasks and status with all engineering subsystems and report out to MAV IA stakeholders (SE&I, S&MA, SVS Office, etc.)
Provide monthly project status to ES Management (Department, Division, and Branches) regarding technical accomplishments, issues, upcoming tasks, ODC expenditures, and workforce actuals versus plan.
Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) for aspects of MAV/Orion integrated avionics and software such as docking and ionizing radiation issues.
Support monthly tag-up with MAV management to address workforce allocation, performance, and issues.
Develop/Update MAV Avionics Insight plan and present to MAV Program office as required.
Coordinate actions with the MAV IA Insight Team.
Periodic travel to support avionics reviews and critical tasks as needed.

· A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 15 years of avionics hardware systems and software experience is required. Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 14 years of experience, Masters with at least 18 years of experience, or BS with at least 20 years of experience.
Other required skills shall include\:
Problem identification and solutions utilizing experience/skills in management, engineering design integration across multiple disciplines, trade studies, requirements, milestone reviews, interface definition, change management, risk management, manufacturing, assembly, test, risk management, safety, logistics, and quality.Ability to review avionics products and provide relevant feedback, have good coordination/integration and communication (critical) skills, be pro-active, be able to multi-task and accomplish a task with minimal supervision. Requisite interpersonal and technical management skills.
Desired Skills\:
Prior experience with Space Shuttle, Ares, SLS or Human Lander avionics and software requirements and architectures.Hands-on, experience with avionics and/or electronic systems for both development of in-house projects as well as Government oversight of MSFC led projects throughout the project life cycle.

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).
Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance
Normal workday is from 7\:30 a.m. through 4\:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
