**Job Summary and Description:**
The applications team within the Integrated Grid and Energy Systems area is seeking a technical lead to enhance and grow our capabilities in delivering high-value, cutting-edge projects for EPRI’s utility members. The technical lead will be responsible for developing new business opportunities, overseeing project execution and closeout, and supervising a small team of applications engineers. Individuals who would enjoy this work prefer a highly dynamic range of technical challenges, constantly working on the industry’s most relevant and cutting-edge topics, and delivering the complete package of technical innovation, client relationships, and business objectives.
The IGES applications team focuses on the Institute’s efforts to apply leading-edge technologies and subject matter expertise to member-specific challenges in grid planning and operations, distributed energy resources, and climate analysis. The team develops actionable insights regarding impact and capabilities of new technologies through utility-driven demonstrations and cross-cutting projects. Our work features collaboration with experts across EPRI to produce deliverables that are focused on individual member needs, executed within a shorter time frame, and aimed at answering nearer-term research questions than previously associated with R&D. Our reach is global – spanning the entirety of the North and South America, along with Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. The team environment is growth-oriented, energetic, results-driven, and client-focused.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Regularly interacting with utility members to discuss their needs, and collaborating with member and EPRI staff to define solutions and deliver results
+ Leading key, cross-cutting projects across and adjacent to EPRI’s Integrated Grid domain expertise
+ Supervising a small number of technical staff that are providing project support through project management, technical work, and technology transfer
+ Providing internal leadership and occasional training within the Institute in areas of technical knowledge as well as non-technical topics such as opportunity development and knowledge transfer
+ Assisting applications manager and operations coordinator in managing workflows and refining operational processes
**Additional Qualifications:**
+ **Strong interpersonal skills** – ability to partner with clients to develop solutions as well as engage internal teams within the Institute (both R&D and operations) to ensure timely delivery
+ **Personnel Development** – have a strong interest in professional development for technical staff (both engineering and non-engineering skillsets) and must be passionate about developing new staff into capable solutions developers
+ **Business acumen** – must have an understanding of basic business concepts and be able to develop cost estimates, evaluate financial health of new and existing opportunities, and be able to assist the applications manager in ascertaining and communicating the financial health of the business
+ **Broad technical understanding of the power system** – must have at least a basic understanding of multiple fundamental areas within the sector (e.g. resource planning, transmission and distribution operations and planning, energy storage, DER integration) Must also be able to engage technical SME’s with deeper understanding when needed and know how to effectively leverage their expertise.
**Education & Experience:**
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required
+ Masters or PhD in technical field preferred
+ Previous experience leading or managing a team
+ 8-12 years of professional experience
The salary range for this position is $123,500 USD to $130,200 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
