The Integrated Media Director is responsible for team of journalists, who gather news for both broadcast and digital media. The IMD leads both Assignment Editors and Digital Producers as they gather information and push it out to the appropriate platform. (TV, Digital, OTT). They will supervise both Assignment Editors and Digital Producers, who sit together at the Integrated Media Center.
The Integrated Media Director must be a strong journalist, with production skills and producer experience. They must have at least two years of experience as a newscast producer with excellent writing and communication skills. This supervisor must in effect, be multi-headed in their direction of content. Candidates should be able to craft eye-grabbing headlines and content that provide value to our audience and drive digital user engagement. They must understand the importance of video for all mediums and understand how to get it on air/on-line quickly. While this candidate will largely work in the newsroom, the ability to take pictures is a plus.
The Integrated Media Director will have a team reporting to them. All will be responsible for answering calls, emails, writing articles, posting videos, managing reporters, MMJ's, photographers and social media sites. This candidate will build stories that will be high performing across multiple websites. A strong knowledge of social media platforms and current SEO trends are expected. Our new IMD will be a critical element shaping the future of our newsroom.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Strives to be #1 on air and on digital 24 hours/day.
+ 100% buy in that we will be first in market with breaking news, weather and traffic to our customers.
+ Oversees daily operation of ABC4.com.
+ Must have at least two years of experience as a newscast producer with excellent writing and communication skills.
+ Works with regional digital lead to evaluate goals on a weekly basis.
+ Train, coach and manage a team of digital producers, reporters, and editor/distro producers.
+ Dispatches photographers, MMJ's, reporters and other news team members to cover stories.
+ Story Tracking from all sources, including government agencies, wire services community groups, PACER and Court Exchange.
+ Coordinates logistics for newsroom.
+ Leads daily story meetings, providing a strong list of possible stories to cover.
+ Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories.
+ Writes stories for all platforms.
+ Interacts with viewers/users on phone and all media sites.
+ Communicates goals, processes and expectations for digital success across all platforms.
+ Communicates digital data goals and results on a daily basis to digital team and regional lead.
+ Establishes expectations and accountability for digital KPIs, like increasing pageviews and pages/session.
+ Evaluates website traffic trends to make daily and long-term content decisions.
+ Assigns and edits stories, photographs, graphics, videos, audio and other news content for digital platforms.
+ Willing to adjust shift as needed to coach direct reports or produce if necessary.
+ Supervises work of other staff members who are producing news for digital platforms.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
+ Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
+ Minimum two years' experience in news operations, digital and news production.
+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
+ Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles, ethics and standards.
+ Strong news judgement.
+ Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
+ Understand AP Style.
+ Proficient in Google Analytics and Chartbeat.
+ Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, competitive, assertive and able to work under pressure.
+ Seeks out new technology in a fast-evolving industry.
+ Flexibility to work any shift.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: This position may require ability to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, this person must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and can handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements may be required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
