Integration Engineer Intern

Position Description\:

Systems Integration and Test Facility (SITF), Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) Hardware-in-the-Loop facility (HWIL), and the Software Development Facilities (SDFs) that will be used to verify the integrated avionics system for the Space Launch System (SLS) at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). The position requires expertise in assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and some limited design skill that would be relevant in supporting distributed computing and simulation laboratories, integration tasks and development activities. The position will require personnel certification in operations including Electrostatic Discharge, Cabling Operator, and Crimping Operator.

Responsibilities\:

Perform software/hardware integration activities as required\:

Support systems integration functions Support software/hardware integration troubleshooting and bug-fix activities Develop and execute test plans and procedures Enter or update documentation into appropriate control system Troubleshoot simulation anomalies Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance goals Provide weekly written and oral status reports in a meeting setting Troubleshooting and development Linux based operating systems. Utilize Software Development Language to assist with troubleshooting Usage of a 1553 relay Create and Interpret Engineering Drawings and Schematics

These activities will be on-going as the launch vehicle architecture matures and the SLS program completes program phases, reviews and schedule milestones.

Qualifications\:

Current enrollment in a BS degree program in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related STEM degree is required. Degree program at an ABET accredited institution preferred. 

Must be able to provide own transportation.

Desired Qualifications\:

Coursework or Experience in electronic hardware assembly and test. Familiarity with cable routing and cable testing. Experience writing and executing test procedures, performing electrical fabrication and assembly based on verbal or written input, and performing troubleshooting of hardware installations is highly desired. Ability to determine a software fault and system level source of a software fault. Familiarity or Coursework with circuit boards and schematics. Knowledge of systems engineering processes and procedures in disciplines such as hardware and software integration, requirements development, verification and validation, and testing.

Work Environment\:

Office and shop environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). 

Physical Requirements\:

Requires lifting of sometimes heavy (up to 40 pounds per person) computer systems and associated hardware when building up or maintaining systems (10%). Requires climbing a ladder or operating a vertical lift (up to 15 feet) to work on the avionics lab structure (25%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (20%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and other facilities (10%).

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance\:

Normal workday is from 7\:30 a.m. through 4\:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday.  Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions\:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
