Your role and responsibilities

Join ABB and complete an internship within a team dedicated to creating a future where innovative digital technologies enable better access to cleaner energy.The ABB Measurement & Analytics plant in Quebec is a world leader in the field of spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of space optical sensors used, among other things, for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and for global weather forecasting. Our plant is also recognized for its expertise in the development and manufacturing of various products that meet several industrial analysis needs on a daily basis.By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec, you will actively contribute to our clients' projects. You will complete your internship in a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team. This is an ideal internship for someone looking to deepen their knowledge in the field of space instrumentation. Your role as an intern will be to actively participate in the integration of a satellite payload intended for high-resolution Earth imaging. This is a very complex payload. The challenges are numerous for interested and motivated individuals. The tasks cover several areas of expertise: optics, mechanics, and electronics. As an intern for the Integration & Testing role in the Space domain, you will need to familiarize yourself with the project to understand the general context and the underlying scientific and technological principles. Depending on the skills and interests of the selected individuals, a mandate will be proposed in collaboration with the project team.•\tBe responsible for an optical lens alignment station in a barrel and associated tasks.•\tParticipate in the mechanical assembly of structural parts, including bonding activities and thermal management devices.•\tPerform dimensional checks with the CMM to ensure parts conform to the highest standards.•\tParticipate in the high-precision assembly of spectral filters.•\tValidate the optical performance of the system, such as MTF, focal length, and distortion.•\tOperate a telescope detector alignment station, including final performance verification.•\tParticipate in the execution of functional and performance electronic tests.

Qualifications for the role

Bachelor's student in physics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.Ability to follow standardized aerospace procedures and methodologies, with meticulousness, concentration, and a desire to do things well.Problem-solving skills in complex systems and excellent communication skills, with a results-oriented and team player mindset.Experience with the Office suite and Matlab or Python, and ability to provide clear and concise documentation when required.Bilingual (English-French). French is required. English will also be required to speak with clients throughout Canada as well as for written documentation.
