Intelligence Research Specialist
Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters, Law Enforcement Operations Directorate, Intelligence, Selfridge, AF Base, MI. Responsibilities As an Intelligence Research Specialist, you will represent the collective intelligence capabilities and expertise across the agency that enable coordinated and consistent operations under a unified framework when addressing current and emerging border security issues and threats. This position starts at a salary of $80,006.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $124,659.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $148,245 (GS-13 Step 10). As an Intelligence Research Specialist, you will apply a full range of analytical knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide finished intelligence and intelligence products in support of operations. Your duties will include: Gathering, evaluating, analyzing, and abstracting intelligence data from multiple or specific sources. Contributing to short and long term planning through in-depth research and analysis regarding threats to border security. Compiling, collating, extrapolating, and exploiting both unclassified and classified sources of information and reporting. Engaging in research and analysis to develop and publish finished tactical, operational, and strategic level intelligence products. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Delivering written and/or verbal reports and presentations to peer or next level audiences to provide status updates and inform intelligence operations Researching, analyzing, evaluating, and disseminating intelligence information Identifying intelligence gaps, problems, or potential difficulties Participating in assessments and hypothesis testing regarding known or emerging border security threats Synthesizing intelligence information into coherent and meaningful pictures, as well as determining source reliability and validating information from multiple sources for incorporation into intelligence products. Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Using intelligence databases to extract data. Ensuring that all intelligence data is properly classified, stored, and handled in accordance with appropriate directives. Evaluating incoming intelligence reports and information. Processing and evaluating volumes of intelligence information from a variety of sources. Building and maintaining contacts with counterparts in other intelligence agencies. Working in collaboration with others in a group or Task Force setting to identify trends and patterns with all available data.
