Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently looking for a companywide Practice Leader to complement our growing Transportation Business and lead the Intercity and High-Speed Rail Practice Group. The Intercity and High-Speed Rail Practice encompasses the full suite of services HDR provides, including Planning, Engineering, Architectural, Systems, Facilities, Signal Engineering, Zero Emissions Mobility and Roadway disciplines.  Advisory Services are also available in the early stages of intercity and high-speed rail programs, relying on multiple cross sectors to add value to our clients as they define their programs.

In the role of Intercity and High-Speed Rail Practice Group Leader, we’ll count on you to:

Take responsibility for companywide development, coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of intercity and high-speed rail practitioners and products to meet client needs and market drivers.Collaborate with of Intercity and High-Speed Rail Practice Group members to elevate our practice and develop staff involved with policy, facility planning, corridor planning and development, program management, operations and safety, funding, and associated aspects of all intercity and high-speed rail modes. Work with other practice leaders to develop transformative ideas that will enable clients to take advantage of emerging transportation trends (automated technology, asset management, grant management, corridor planning, design, permitting, and program management) and future-proof investments; and allow HDR to maintain thought leadership position in the industry. Actively drive open communication with the Practice Group members regarding current/projected production needs; and collaborate with areas to influence staffing and expertise levels.Develop client relationships in close coordination with Area Business Development Leaders and local transit planning staff. Identify market opportunities in close coordination with Area Business Development Leaders and develop winning pursuit strategies. Also assist with local and national pursuits. Identify industry talent and work with Area and Corporate leadership to attract and retain staff. Oversee delivery of project services and deliverables to meet client expectations.Maintain standards for quality and consistency of service brand.Maintain qualification packages and staff skills matrix that can be readily utilized for project pursuits. Assist with the development of marketing materials including proposals. Lead workshare communications that result in technical excellence and enhanced utilizationsAdvocate for professional development of staff and development of production tools: best practices, technical policies and procedures, papers and presentations, Professional Associates credentialing, recognition of technical achievement, practice group activities, and automation tools.Serve as a project manager for major intermodal projects and leverage HDR’s global expertise to deliver quality work on time, while meeting or exceeding client expectations.Represent HDR at state and national level professional organizations.Act as role model of our values and code of conduct, as well as professional/ethical/business standards expected by specific clients and required by licensing/credentialing entities.Perform other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

A highly skilled professional in developing, negotiating, and building consensus around innovative interdisciplinary solutions to complex railroad technical, policy, and legal challenges. A respected organizational leader with a demonstrated record of developing, supporting, and maximizing the effectiveness of high-performance teams.Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline required.Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with intercity and high-speed rail planning projects and programs required.Experienced in the development and management of diverse teams.The successful candidate must have knowledge of, and experience with, large scale intercity and high-speed rail planning and/ or NEPA projects.Experience with FRA, STB, other USDOT and State programs, especially federal grants, is required. Must have well-developed analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values.An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

A nationally recognized industry leader in railroad planning, engineering, and transportation policy, with progressively responsible experience in the public and private sectors, both in the United States and internationally. Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline preferred. Professional registration such as AICP, PE, PTOE, PTP, PMP preferred.

Typical starting pay range for this position:

•California will be $154,930.00 - $215,410.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.•Colorado will be $140,845.00 - $182,270.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.•Hawaii will be $121,789.50 - $173,985.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.•New York will be $140,845.00 - $207,125.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.•Washington will be $133,803.00 - $190,555.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location..
