Responsibilities Serves as interior design team leader and Senior Interior Designer responsible for planning, design and review of new and/or renovation of existing interiors for MWR facilities. Provides expert advice on interior design principles for diverse projects through out Army facilities around the world to include: Army Lodging, Armed Forces Recreation Centers (AFRC), clubs, bowling centers, snack bars and other assigned spaces. Leads team of food service designer and design assistant as the complexity of the project requires. Coordinates design requirements with IMCOM program managers. Overall responsibility as team leader to create and develop complete interior designs, including complex features utilizing the latest interior design and construction techniques. Develops design plans considering such factors as function, user needs, energy use, building codes, durability, life cycle costs, effective space planning, aesthetics, and economics. Prepares complete interior design drawings in compliance with agency criteria and needs of the project including floor plans, interior elevations, section details, and finishes. Balances aesthetic features to blend with existing structures, site, and environment. Provides quantity material takeoffs for interior architectural features. Prepares interior design package to include finishes, colors, detailed furnishings and equipment layouts, schedules encompassing power and communication requirements, quantities, and costs. Coordinates and monitors the creation of interior designs performed under contract. Reviews designs prepared by A-E firms to ensure conformity to policy and design criteria. Participates in project validation assessments as subject matter expert for functional space planning and design. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE CLEARLY VERIFIABLE IN YOUR RESUME. GOVERNMENT POSITIONS MUST INCLUDE PAY PLAN, SERIES, GRADE, TO AND FROM DATES, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCY/DEPARTMENT. Must include at least one year of experience performing duties at a level which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform successfully in the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Directly related work experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs. Documented work experience must have been equivalent in complexity and difficulty to at least the next lower grade level. Must have excellent communication skills and a working knowledge of MS Office applications and automated design processes. All Qualified applicants will be rated against the highly qualifying criteria by a rating panel for evaluation of the quality and extent of your total accomplishments, experience and education. Those applicants determined to be highly qualified will be referred to the hiring official for consideration. The highly qualified candidates may undergo an interview and reference checks. All answers to the Highly Qualifying Criteria must be demonstrated in your resume to get credit. HIGHLY QUALIFYING CRITERIA: 1. Possess a comprehensive understanding of mechanical, electrical, and structural system integration within interior spaces. 2. Possess knowledge of code requirements, laws, standards, regulations, accessibility, and sustainability and their impact on the design of interior spaces. 3. Possess skill in utilizing BIM (Building Information Modeling) and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. Software applications may include AutoCAD, Revit and others. 4. Possess specialized knowledge in Hospitality Design and Interior Design of hotel rooms and public areas. 5. Accredited by the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). 6. Posses knowledge of interior design theories and principles, programming, space planning and aesthetics as they relate to the renovation and construction of facilities. Education Education is not required for this position and will not be utilized in determining minimum qualifications or as a substitution for experience unless indicated in the vacancy. Telework is not guaranteed, however you may be eligible based on current agency policy.
