Stantec’s Mining Practice is hiring a surface Intermediate Mining Engineer to join their growing team in Salt Lake City, UT.
The Mining Engineer will execute mining engineering and related projects for mining studies/projects of varying size and complexity, and at various project stages from initial concepts through to execution This person may be required to work on several projects at a time. Our projects are focused on many different commodities including metals, aggregates, and industrial minerals.
Work with clients to deliver safe, responsible, and innovative solutions.
Work with geologists, geotechnical engineers, and civil engineers to help design mine access, determine mining methods, mine development, and mine infrastructure. Prepare mine development and production plans and schedules.
Estimate performance productivities and support the preparation of capital and operating costs.
Attend meetings and interface with clients, external consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, and/or vendors.
Participate in technical reviews.
Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
Supports the development of standards and specifications for the mining group.
Prepare technical reports.
Support business development efforts and proposal preparation.
International or national travel can be expected with the possibility of extended stays. Your Capabilities and Credentials

Thorough understanding of mining engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.

Perform as competent person for NV-4301 or JORC reserves & resources reporting
Expertise in pit and phase optimization using Whittle, MMSO or NPVS software (Whittle is preferred)
Proven experience in one of the following: Vulcan, MineSight, Deswik or Carlson mine design software
Experience in creating optimized mine plans using Deswik Scheduler software is a plus.
Prior work in prefeasibility and feasibility project phases is preferred.
Experience in mine valuation studies a plus.
Familiar with Mine Health and Safety Regulations
Valid driver’s license required
Education and Experience
Mining Engineering Degree from an accredited university.
8-10 years of engineering experience in surface metals, industrial, or construction aggregate mining.
Engineering and operations experience at an operating mine considered an asset.
