Responsibilities:\n\nAssistance in processing and preservation of samples for microbiology and chemistry analysis. \nPerforms microbiology and chemistry laboratory analyses related duties in support of the MWRA's monitoring programs. \nEnters data into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)\nPerformed laboratory analysis, including enumeration of bacterial pollution indicators such as Enterococcus using prescribed procedures.\nAssists with other chemical, physical or biological laboratory testing.\nPerforms related laboratory duties, calibrating field instruments and preparing materials for field sampling. (e.g. buffers\/quality control standards).\nRecords field and laboratory data on paper and in data logger\nReports to a Laboratory Supervisor II\n\n

The preferred candidate will have completed at least the Sophomore year in a science or environmental major. The candidate should have some chemistry\/microbiology laboratory skills and have a general understanding of laboratory procedures as demonstrated by completing at least four chemistry\/biology\/microbiology laboratory courses. \n

Requirements:\n\nMust have a valid driver's license.\nAbility to perform careful laboratory manipulations.\nGood communication skills.\nCompetency in Microsoft Office Suite software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.\n\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:\n\nAdhere to standard laboratory practices and safety requirements. \nPerform field water quality testing, as required.\nAssist in the collection of other water quality samples, as needed.\nPerform related duties as required.\n\n

Other Information:\n\nWork Location: MWRA, Deer Island, 190 Tafts Avenue, Winthrop, MA 02152\nVarying start time possible Work Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday, 7:00AM to 3:00 PM.\nInternship Period: May - September\n\n
