Intern, Lean Manufacturing

We are seeking a Summer Intern in our Newtown, CT facility.  The intern will be focusing on LEAN implementation of pull systems and visual factory.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Hands-On Support:  Focus on LEAN manufacturing.  Create, implement and monitor a production pull system for key products on the shop floor. Create structure for pull system, train all employees involved, execute and monitor. Process Improvement: Specific focus on pull systems and creating a visual factory.  Use our LEAN tools to further develop our visual factory.   Data Collection & Analysis: Full understanding of a pull system.   Create path to monitor pull system success and make the monitoring visual for the factory.   Documentation & Reporting: Support the documentation of new processes, engineering specifications, and operational standards. Assist with preparing reports and presentations for management on ongoing projects. Project Assistance: Contribute to ongoing LEAN manufacturing projects aimed at enhancing production throughput, reducing waste, or improving quality. Assist in implementing and tracking project progress. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with the production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure alignment between engineering solutions and operational goals.

Education & Experience

Currently pursuing BS Engineering - Manufacturing or Mechanical preferred

Skills

Currently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Strong interest in process optimization and manufacturing technologies. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., assembly lines, machining, etc.). Comfortable working in both a desk and hands-on shop floor environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Experience with CAD software, process simulation tools, or data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Python). Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering setting is a plus but not mandatory.

Working Conditions

100% on-site at the Monroe & Newtown, CT facilities. May require standing, walking, and working in both office and production environments.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

Safety Requirements
