The Manufacturing Engineering team supports Manufacturing operations by troubleshooting issues and identifying equipment system improvements, supports bioprocessing equipment related projects (including technology transfers, capital projects, continuous improvement projects and other modifications), as well as develops and supports equipment commissioning and qualification (validation) activities for project efforts requiring cross-functional & contract resources. The team works with and provides direction to contractors and participates in multi-function teams to implement change and improve on existing processes in the GMP facilities.
Position Description
Biogen is seeking a highly motivated engineering student to join the Manufacturing Engineering group at our RTP Bio location. The Manufacturing Engineering group supports all bioprocessing equipment, capital projects, and processes as well as validation responsibilities for the RTP Bio site. The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
Capacity to work within a cGMP regulated environment.Understand biotech processes and equipment.Able to handle several projects simultaneously working both as part of a team and independently.Be able to coordinate and perform activities across several small projects concurrently.Excellent organization and communication skills for collaboration with internal stakeholders.As an intern, you must be able to organize and work within multi-function teams to implement changes and improve on existing processes and provide updates to the team and management. The ability to manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously and be able to prioritize these is also a requirement for this position.
The position will require a firm understanding of the importance of good data management practices. You should be proficient with common computer-based systems and software including Microsoft Office products. This individual will be expected to learn how to interpret engineering documents (process and instrumentation diagrams and equipment specifications) as well as navigate multiple Biogen developed engineering support systems.
Example projects may include:
Support equipment/capital improvement projects, coordinating technical documentation and engineering drawings, equipment troubleshooting. P&ID review for accuracy and updating drawings and equipment tags accordingly.Correcting tank ID discrepancies between P&IDs and DeltaV.Creation of a portable tank status tracker.QualificationsProficient in MS office programs & Technical Writing A self-starter with good communication skills and willingness to learn new skills.
