JOB DESCRIPTION:

Internships have a lasting impact on our team at New York Air Brake! The summer internship program for students in their Junior or Senior year of study provides the opportunity to make big contributions to our manufacturing facilities that help us deliver advanced freight rail braking solutions now and in the future. We value innovation, team players, and people with the passion to dig in when presented with new opportunities. This is your opportunity to make a big impact on improving the quality of how the latest generation of locomotive and freight car braking systems are manufactured. You can expect challenging work and an insider’s view into your future profession. You will work individually and as part of a project team while receiving regular feedback in preparation for a final presentation to company leaders. Our interns start in May and work through August. You can expect 40 hours per week plus lots of fun. There is something for everyone as a summer intern at the Kansas City Service Center.

Essential Functions

• Evaluate product improvement or cost optimization projects by conducting trials, including development of trial plans and authoring trial reports

• Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups

• Monitor, assess, analyze, and optimize process quality and conditions

• Monitor, assess, and analyze process variability • Reduce environmental impact

• Provide technical support for key departments • Utilize problem-solving and analytical skills to achieve department initiatives.

• Provide process engineering support to increase manufacturing capacity, improve safety/quality, and reduce manufacturing costs.

• Leverage process engineering capability to support production process continuous improvement using operational excellence tools.

• Support capital project work from scoping through installation under technical supervision

• Assist in the design and technical supervision of plant studies and contribute to the design of the final project installation.

Skills and Competencies

• Understanding of 5S methodology and Lean manufacturing principles.

• Strong communication and customer service skills

• Excellent time management and organizational skills

Education

 Degree: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology with a 3.0 or higher GPA

 Minimum Year: Entering Junior yea
