Intern, Technical Project Management, Drive Unit, Summer 2025

The Drive Unit Engineering team is looking to hire an intern for Summer 2025. These are some of the potential role and responsibilities:

 

Project Planning and Coordination

Assist TPM/Sr. TPM in project planning activities including creation of development schedules according to Lucid PDP, provide inputs for budgeting and resource management Discuss with engineering teams to understand in-depth the scope of work required on projects and create development schedules; Identify risks as needed to management Work cross-functionally with supply chain, manufacturing, prototype build/test, vehicle program etc. to gather inputs and/or share project-related information. Actively drive alignment among stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are on-track Set-up and chair meetings as needed; document and publish meeting minutes and related documents Participate actively in project planning meetings, including build and test coordination

Technical Activities’ Support

Support creation and maintenance of development builds and tests related to drive units – including Motor-Gearbox and Inverter Submit tickets in JIRA, as needed, for build/test activities; work closely with engineers, TPMs, build and test teams to ensure tasks remain on schedule Undertake necessary training to be able to support build/test teams hands-on in the labs Review/analyze test data, create DV test reports and other related technical documentation, as needed Track drive unit warranty activities including warranty return teardowns, tracking critical metrics, issue identification and resolution with the right stakeholders

Process Improvement

Support TPM team to implement process improvements Highlight gaps or inconsistencies in processes that are notable

Learning and Development

Undergo (on-the-job) product-related training for all DU sub-systems, such as Traction Motor, Transmission, Inverter, Motor Control, Thermal-fluids etc.; Understand product development process and associated principles; application of industry standard processes (APQP/PPAP) in the context of high-velocity Lucid projects Gain exposure to manufacturing plant end-to-end operations (logistics, material handling, NPI etc.); Focus on production processes and process control (PFMEA, Control Plan etc.) Network and engage with other product specialists in Powertrain and other vehicle systems to understand system-level dependencies and attribute trade-offs (range, weight, BOM cost etc.) Understand and apply of systematic problem-solving methods, root cause analysis, documentation Shadow TPMs managing different phases of the product life cycle, from R&D through series production. Complete all mandatory training as necessary

Dedicated Project

A term-long project will be chosen at the beginning of the term. The objective will be for the project to space across as many learning objectives as possible. At the end of the term, the intern will be expected to make a presentation to a cross-functional team of his/her journey through the project and highlight the outcomes, including personal challenges and achievements.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of EV Powertrain operation – concept and parts involved  Strong engineering/Physics coursework background to be able to understand various domains involved in the drive unit – mechanical, electrical, electro-magnetic, electro-mechanical, thermal-fluids concepts and application  Experience using MS Office suite of products Communication skills – both written and spoken

Nice to Have: 

Prior exposure to EVs – either college projects or internships Experience using Jira/Confluence Knowledge/exposure to embedded Software development Exposure to / knowledge of manufacturing/testing of EV Powertrain products Prior co-op/internship experience

 

 

Education:

Field(s) of study: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field  Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at an accredited university Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS)

Program Information: 

Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.  Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs. Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work. Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $35 to $48 (subject to changes). Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis.  Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.   Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.  Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.  Medical benefits: Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.
