The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. The internship will focus on the work and activities associated with the Association’s California Tobacco Endgame Center for Organizing & Engagement, which serves as a training, technical assistance and resource provider to projects and staff working to pass tobacco policies in cities and counties throughout the state of California. Be Valued™ at the American Heart Association by following us on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X (formally Twitter), and at heart.org. **Internship Overview:** + Time Commitment: 20 hours per week + Internship Duration: 5/19/25 – 8/22/25 + Location: **Remote position located in California** + Salary: $23.00 per hour **Internship Outcomes** Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to: + Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment. + Learn community organizing, communications and training skills. + Opportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization. + Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others. **Responsibilities** + Help support participants and staff in carrying out the Capitol Information & Education Days event in Sacramento May 27-28, 2025. + Participate in the delivery of the Tobacco Endgame Center sponsored trainings in community organizing, spokesperson training, and decision maker engagement. + Assist with developing slide decks and materials for the Tobacco Endgame Center’s local and statewide trainings and monthly Affinity Calls. + Research reports, facts, and figures to help inform the Tobacco Endgame Center team and aid in developing materials. + Assist in monitoring local tobacco policy campaigns throughout the state to help provide assistance, training and resources to these efforts. + Assist with efforts to enhance the user experience with the Tobacco Endgame Center’s website, organizingtoendtobacco.org + Assist with social media graphics and messaging. **Qualifications** + **Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public policy, communications, public relations, public health, journalism or related fields.** + **Experience in community organizing, tobacco prevention, public policy and/or an interest in non-profit advocacy is strongly preferred.** + Intermediate to excellent proficiency with software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. + Basic Canva experience. + Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional interaction with colleagues. + Experience giving presentations is a plus. + Experience with email marketing programs (Salesforce, Mailchimp, Constant Contact) is a plus. + Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection + **Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.** + **Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.
