Internship within Composite processing and testing for storage applications in aerospace systems(d/f/m)Are you looking for an internship and want to get to know the work of Airbus?
Would you like to discover the work of a material scientist?
Then apply now!
We look forward to you joining us as an intern (d/f/m) at Airbus CRT for 35 hours/ week, flexi-time.
Location: Ottobrunn, Munich
Start: 01.02.2025
Duration: 6 months
Airbus is a global pioneer in aeronautics, space and defense related services, creating cutting-edge technologies. Combining European heritage with global outreach, the diversity of our talent and technology drives innovation, integration and internationalization. Airbus CRT is the central research domain of the Airbus company, in charge of fundamental research for all Airbus divisions.
Composite materials are widely used in the aerospace industry, especially due to their high strength-to-weight ratios. They consist of a reinforcing fiber and a polymeric resin taking over the role of a matrix which gives them their unique property profile.
The focus of this internship will be the investigation of new Towpreg material systems which are used for high quality winding of composite pressure vessel structures. Applications have temperature ranges from +120 °C to -269 °C. Potential storable liquids/gases are e.g. Helium, Xenon, Hydrogen among others. In this field, combinations of carbon fibers will be impregnated with novel polymer matrix systems and tested in terms of mechanical and processing performance for potential future applications.
Additionally, the interface and connection to potential parts in the vehicle, will be of great interest to be highlighted as an outlook in this work.
As an intern at Airbus CRT you will be a member of the materials team and participate in technical project meetings and meetings with our customers. This internship will be dedicated to the development of towpreg material systems. The activities will be focused on formulation in the laboratory and physicochemical analysis of the different resin systems. Beside a standard material development, the use of digital tools for different processing routes and tools will also be investigated in order to speed up the development cycles and better understand the structure-properties relationships. Finally, mechanical characterization and composite development will also be studied.
