Intern - Accounting

Your Education, Skills, and Experience: 

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s program in Accounting or Finance with an expected graduation date in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. 

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent 

• Demonstrated internship, work, research, or extracurricular participation

• Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in a career in Corporate Accounting/Finance and Manufacturing

Compensation for this internship opportunity ranges between $20- $22 per hour. (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).

A relocation stipend in the amount of $3,000 will be provided to students located 50+ miles from the physical location of the internship.

Your education is just the beginning – you’ll become an active member of our Financial Transactions and Policy team located in Pittsburgh, PA. During our 12-week internship program, you’ll tackle real-world challenges through impactful assignments, and work alongside our industry changemakers. 

The Intern – Accounting will gain experience in several areas of corporate accounting/finance using different tools (Excel, Oracle Smart View, etc.) with no one day being the same. The internship requires strong communication skills and organization to keep up with multiple responsibilities that will help you to establish a foundation for building a career in accounting/finance.

Intern Impact Project: Assets and Liability Review 

The Intern – Accounting will be tasked with looking at changes in account balances of other assets and liabilities over time and pursuing explanations for fluctuations and balances.

A Day in the Life at Howmet…

In addition to your impact project work, you’ll have the opportunity to: 

• Assist in the preparation of global journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, SEC filings schedules and tie outs of 10Qs and earnings press releases, as well as SOX controls documentation.

• Use the accounting systems (i.e., Smart View) in connection with monthly general ledger financial close and consolidation.

• Review and research internal policies (SOPs and Financial Management Handbooks) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) requirements

• Interact with global finance contacts to validate account balances and fluctuations

• Attend information sessions with the Senior Leadership team
