Engineering Co-op opportunity for the Spring, Summer, or Fall of 2025 is available on the AES Ohio Forecast, Modeling, and Analysis Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate should be a student pursuing a four-year degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical strongly preferred). Additional consideration will be given to candidates with a strong drive to solve complex problems, exceptional attention to detail, and effective communication skills. We are committed to offering internship opportunities across multiple semesters, providing continuous learning and development throughout the program.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

The Forecast, Modeling, and Analysis team has three areas of focus (Transmission, Distribution, and Interconnection). Accordingly, the successful candidate may be assigned to focus on one area, while also supporting other subgroups, during their co-op based on skills and interests. Contribute to each of the following groups by:

Transmission: Perform power flow and contingency analysis, andĀ support project development, which includes preparing project documentation - need statements, potential solutions, cost estimates and one-line diagrams. Support PJM modeling requests.

Distribution: Plan additions to the distribution system with smart grid, solve voltage and fusing problems, meet with workers in the field to propose solutions for poor performing circuits, and update loading data and ratings.

Interconnection: Participate in the interconnection process of renewable energy customer projects, including residential projects on the distribution system and large-scale projects on the transmission system.

Work on other tasks to broaden knowledge and experience in the field of engineering such as:

Support engineers on a variety of electric infrastructure projects designing future state distribution and transmission power systems.Develop unique solutions to gather, store, and utilize electrical asset data implemented and collected in the field to improve data driven decision making. Create and maintain electrical models using power flow software such as PSSE and CYME.Work in an agile, collaborative environment partnering with technicians, engineers, regulatory experts and businesspeople of all backgrounds and disciplines to solve complex problemsAttend site visits to substations or other engineering sites to verify electric facilities through field research and learn about complex T&D systemsUse industry leading software to study potential problems on the electrical grid and proactively propose solutionsReview interconnection applications for system layout, one-line diagrams, and electrical equipment to validate it meets company and national engineering standards.Identify potential problems on the electrical grid due to interconnection and identify mitigationsActively engage in open discussions to identify ways the company can improve to Accelerate the future of Energy

Intern may be expected to complete additional assignments as determined by their supervisor.
