What is the role?
Internal Audit is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function designed to support Howden Group and its entities in achieving their strategic objectives. By applying a detailed and focused approach, Internal Audit evaluates and enhances risk management, control, and governance processes. The function reports to the Howden Group Audit Committee.
The goal of Internal Audit is not to find fault but to help management and business units succeed in meeting their objectives. Through a diverse range of skill sets, the team challenges the status quo and provides valuable insights alongside core assurance activities.
As a global group with a significant UK presence in both Retail (including 120 high-street branches) and large commercial insurance markets, Internal Audit is seeking an Internal Audit Manager to support its regulatory audit plan.
This role may require up to 15% travel to UK and international offices. It is a hybrid position, requiring at least two days per week in the office (preferably in London, though Gloucester and Manchester hubs are also considered).
What will you be doing?
Deliver a variety of internal audits as part of the Group Audit Plan, assessing business processes and risks and evaluating internal controls.
Provide independent appraisal of the internal control environment and recommend improvements to processes, controls, and regulatory risk management.
Conduct audits both independently and as part of small teams.
Support the development and maintenance of UK (and potentially international) regulatory knowledge within the Internal Audit team, including upskilling colleagues.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Senior Management.
Participate in various audit activities, such as:
Monitoring the status of management corrective action plans.
Contributing to risk assessment.
Updating management reports for executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
Drive continuous improvement within the function through innovation and efficiency, challenging existing methods.
What are we looking for?
Proven track record in assurance or compliance roles, with strong performance in identifying regulatory risks and delivering high-quality reports across different business models.
Experience presenting and communicating findings professionally and objectively, with the ability to build consensus and drive actions forward.
Solid understanding of the UK regulatory framework for general insurance companies and its application through internal control systems.
Prior experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry is highly advantageous.
