Blackstone Europe Fund Management S.à r.l. (BEFM) is a private limited liability company (société à responsibilité limitée) notably subject to the Law of 10 August 1915 on commercial companies, as amended from time to time and to the AIFM Law. BEFM is authorized by the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) as (i) a management company under Article 101(2) (Chapter 15) of the Law of 17 December 2010 on undertakings for collective investment, as amended (the UCI Law) and (ii) an alternative investment fund manager in accordance with the Law of 12 July 2013 on alternative investment fund managers, as amended (the AIFM Law).

BEFM manages UCITS and alternative investment funds (AIFs) in a variety of asset classes including private equity, real estate, credit and hedge fund solutions. BEFM is also authorized to manage separately managed accounts (SMAs) with a combination of these asset classes.

Job Description

We are currently looking to hire an Assistant Vice-President for the BEFM Risk Management team (BEFM Risk), which is primarily responsible for monitoring, assessment, and management of risks that could adversely affect the portfolios and funds managed by BEFM.

The role will be a key part of the International Finance team in Luxembourg and will report to the Luxembourg heads of Risk Management team. It is part of a small team and therefore is a hands-on role.  Working closely with the other Blackstone teams globally, he/she will be responsible for the following areas, with an expertise focused on some fund strategies.

Responsibilities

As an AVP, you will be a key deputy for the co-heads of BEFM Risk, responsible for the effective identification, monitoring, and assessment of risks. You will be accountable for delivering comprehensive and precise reports to governing bodies and will oversee the execution of top-tier risk analysis across BEFM Risk’s full spectrum of activities, including risk management and investment fund compliance.

Risk management

Risk monitoring: Leading the oversight and assessment of risks associated with BEFM-managed structures, the AVP will devise and implement risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, coordinating with the Conducting Officer Risk and or the CSSF Risk Manager as needed.Investment fund compliance: Overseeing the compliance monitoring with investment restrictions and guidelines for UCITS and AIFs. The AVP will be responsible for identifying potential breaches and ensuring they are escalated appropriately.

Governance

Risk framework, policies and procedures: Leading in maintaining and enhancing an effective risk framework, including  the strategic updating and reviewing policies, procedures, and risk profiles to align with the latest regulatory requirements and industry best practices.Responsible for the preparation of materials and reports for key stakeholders such as Management Committee, Boards and EU/local regulators.

Team management

Transformation and digitalization: Proposing and driving improvements of the risk management processes, enhancement of procedures and processes as well as the use of offshore resources and technologyManage responsibilities and tasks assigned to the offshore consultantsProvide individualized coaching and support to team members (analysts/associates) to enhance their performance and professional development. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the team, encouraging self-reflection and growth. Monitor team performance, track progress towards goals, and provide regular feedback and coaching to team members.

Qualifications & Skills

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team, are highly motivated, with a sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.

Master’s Degree in Finance, Economics,  Financial engineering, or a related discipline (FRM a plus)+7 years of relevant experience in the financial services industry, including roles in AIFM, UCITS Management Company, or Risk Advisory role. A prior experience in a Big 4 is an assetStrong leadership and people management skills, experience as a team manager is a plusExcellent understanding of risk management practices and methodologiesIn-depth knowledge of the regulatory requirements related to funds domiciled in Luxembourg and/or IrelandGood understanding of regulations and reporting obligations applicable to OTC derivatives and SFTs (i.e., EMIR, SFTR)Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint is essential. Knowledge or appetite for IT languages like VBA, SQL, Python, and experience with tools like Tableau or SigmaFluent in English, both written and oralA collaborative team player with a resourceful mindset and a focus on efficiencyDemonstrates ownership and accountability, manages work independently and knows when to escalate mattersAbility to effectively connect and collaborate with international teams and thrive in an entrepreneurial environmentStrong multitasking abilities, excellent organizational skills, and keen attention to detailGood communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levelsProactive and able to suggest new efficient solutions.
