Job Summary:
An International VAT Senior Associate is responsible for utilizing basic research skills and applying their educational background to identify potential opportunities and provide advice to clients in a variety of industries on global indirect tax matters working with VAT leadership. In this role, the International VAT Senior Associate will be expected to continue to develop technical skills and the ability to solve problems and work with both internal and external clients. In addition, this role will be responsible for being knowledgeable about and recognizing global business challenges faced by businesses carrying out international trading activities and how those challenges impact these companies from a global indirect tax perspective.
Job Duties:
Technical Duties:
Assists clients and BDO client service teams in developing ideas, structures, and transactions with a focus on indirect tax matters Assists in researching, writing and reviewing indirect tax advice to provide detail on what is required of companies and what foreign jurisdictions require regarding indirect tax. Researches international indirect tax matters Collaborates with VAT leaders to identify need for other expert resources, internal and external, to assist when necessary to introduce opportunities for indirect tax savings for clients and prospective clients Formulates ideas and delivers possible indirect tax savings opportunities Coordinates with VAT leaders to understand, develop and maintain workplans for tax consulting projects Supports senior staff to provide excellent client service and develop responses to client proposal requests Coordinates with other Firm specialists and client service teams on client and proposal work May participate in organizing and conducting effective internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization Maintains relationships with BDO indirect tax experts in jurisdictions throughout BDO International Identifies opportunities for and assists in drafting tax alerts in international indirect tax matters Assists in managing client expectations Other duties as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise the day-to-day workload of Interns and Associates on assigned engagements and reviews work product May deliver periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for Associates and Interns May act as mentor to Associates and Interns, as appropriate
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, required Juris Doctorate degree, LLM, and/or MBA, preferredExperience:
Two (2) or more years of experience in the field of indirect tax, corporate tax, international tax and/or legal professional services or equivalent experience through an advanced degree program, required VAT/GST experience, required Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, preferredLicense/Certifications:
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), and/or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) or the equivalent of one of these designations, preferredSoftware:
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, required Experience with manipulating and analyzing data using tools such as Alteryx, preferredLanguage:

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
National Range: $73,500 - $131,250
