International Transportation Manager
 The Opportunity: Reporting to the Director, International Transportation and Planning, the Manager, International Transportation is responsible for managing an annual freight spend of close to 50 million dollars ($35M Ocean Freight $15M inland services).  By taking a “hands on” approach to the management of international freight services, this individual provides critical logistics support to the International Sales, working with overseas offices and our customer service teams. This position requires someone with an intermediate understanding of multi modal logistics and international trade practices.  Equally important to this position are strong analytical skills and the ability to manage and report on data. international markets.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life: Providing critical logistics support to the International Sales Team and Customer Service team, MLF global offices and pork leadership team Working with Brandon / Lethbridge and all 3PL facilities for global shipments Negotiate freight rates with shipping lines, freight forwarders, rail carriers and land carriers Manage day to day relationship (service levels, forecasting, problem solving, performance) with the shipping lines / inland carriers / rail carriers / freight forwarders supporting international shipments. Maintain a comprehensive freight rate database Problem solving pertaining to customer deliveries in more than 20 overseas markets. Develop and execute contingency plans as required SPOC for all International carrier claims Manage Marine Insurance claim processing for the business unit, working with our insurance provider to facilitate loss mitigation Continuous improvement of processes within and supporting all aspects of International Transportation. Facilitate and execute RFP’s as required to support savings opportunities  Day to day procurement of ocean freight containers for export shipments from all origins shipping pork / hides / lard Negotiate trucking freight rates to support Mexico business and manage shipments from - Winnipeg / Brandon / Lethbridge & Toronto (Fresh & Frozen) Managing reefer malfunction crossdocking / in-transit inspection (West Coast / East Coast)  Managing Local Drayage carriers -Toronto / Montreal / Winnipeg / Calgary / Vancouver to the CN/CP intermodal terminal for onward movement to the ports Maintain working relationships with container empty depots and PTI Facilities – Montreal /Toronto/Winnipeg/Calgary / Vancouver Managing rail car fleet – 13 rail cars for lard movement within Canada Providing critical logistics support to the International Sales and Customer Service team, MLF global offices and pork leadership team Day to day management of all international shipments from all origins and to all destinations. Problem solving - issues pertaining to customer deliveries/ demurrage/detention Negotiating Insurance claims on all Intl. Shipments. Inside Canada/ Overseas Working with ocean carriers conforming quarantine requirements and setting new routings with overseas offices Updating global sales team, pork leadership team, global offices with changes in the industry and implications to our business. Making contingency plans to maintain supply chain with least disruptions – like port strikes/terminal strikes/rail embargo etc. What You’ll Bring: Minimum of 10 years Supply Chain experience including global trade & international transportation Industry affiliation/designation - CITT, CITP (Certified International Trading professional) University Degree preferred with Business / Intl. Trade Demonstrated strong team player Intimate knowledge of the steamship line industry including sales contacts, vessel schedules and port operations Strong understanding of international export requirements, foreign customs procedures and the costs associated with multimodal transportation Strong verbal and written communication skills Superior analytical skills required to gain insights on costs Strong problem solving, prioritization & organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects on cost cutting initiatives with strict timelines. Ability to work independently and in fast paced environment with limited or no direct supervision. Strong interpersonal skills that allow for informal and formal networking across the organization.
