Internship, Associate UX Designer

You'll join the Product Design team responsible for all user experience efforts for our organization’s software platform. 

  

As the Associate UX Designer Intern, you'll have the unique opportunity to partner with Product Design Human-Computer Interaction experts and support a dynamic team across its primary functions. You’ll have the unique opportunity to gain a broad range of experience in the many elements that contribute to the daily operations of a multi-faceted enterprise and develop critical business competencies through various tasks.  

The Associate UX Designer will be responsible for auditing software products and platforms and with minimal supervision, develop user interface designs and components for web, tablet, mobile, and desktop user applications. We are looking for someone who loves design systems and is passionate about organizing information in ways that are both visually elegant and easy to understand for users of any level. Able to collaborate with software engineers and product managers to produce best in class applications. 

Essential Functions 

Performing a site audit to compile a list of missing and incomplete information; delving into documentation from multiple sources to find the necessary data. 

Offering suggestions and solutions to UX Designers for site organization and improvement based on professional knowledge and experience. 

Documenting component specifications for needed content and helping with other duties as assigned. 

Creating new site content (guidelines, accessibility, content strategy) with guidance from existing documentation, brand guidelines, and manager input. 

Critical thinking of how to make high-level information more accessible for all capabilities. 

Adhering to workflow and timelines as assigned, communicating when issues arise. 

Plan and conduct user requirements gathering, feature analysis, competitive research, conceptual modeling and usability testing. 

Design and specify user interfaces and using iterative design techniques including interviews, usability testing, prototyping and story boarding. 

Document user interface designs with wireframes, user interaction diagrams, low fidelity prototypes and high-fidelity mock-ups. 

Effectively communicate designs, design concepts and design rationale both verbally and visually. 

 

Required Skills:     

Associate’s degree in graphic designs, UX design, HCI, UCD or equivalent practical experience. 

2-4 years of experience in User Experience Design, HCI, Interaction, Data Visualization, or in a similar industry. 

Experience in representing and advocating for UX concepts, such as user-centric design, accessibility, internationalization, etc. 

Experience implementing visual design systems across multiple platforms. 

Portfolio highlighting projects and your direct contributions to crafting simple, easy to understand content. 

Ability to synthesize information to be delivered in coherence with existing brand standards while also suggesting emergent design-focused solutions. 

Strong analytical and organizational skills. 

Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Keen attention to detail. 

Looking for a self-starter who thrives on a remote team. 

 

Preferred Skills:    

Bachelor’s degree in graphic designs, HCI, UCD, or higher degree in similar field

Figma experience preferred, especially working with libraries and components

Optometry industry experience

Education Level:  2 years Associate Degree, a 3rd year/4th year student pursuing a degree in a related filed or higher.

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Salary Ranges: $19.00 - $26.50
