The UPMC Department of Health Economics, Clinical Analytics is seeking an intern for a 10-week internship in summer 2025. The clinical analytics team drives success with clinical operations and lines of business by identifying opportunities, collaboratively designing clinical programs, supporting and monitoring program implementation, and providing rigorous evaluations of clinical and cost impacts. 

The clinical analytics intern will build an understanding of how complex statistical concepts, methods, and applications are conducted for real-world health care data analyses. This will be achieved through performing impactful analyses and/or program evaluations for UPMC Health Plan. This includes analyzing cost, utilization, and clinical outcomes with support from statisticians and analysts within the department.  

The ideal candidate will reside in the Greater Pittsburgh Area, though this position is eligible for remote work.  This is a paid position paying $20/hour.

Responsibilities:

•    Perform comprehensive statistical analyses to support UPMC Health Plan program evaluation and related outcome analysis. 
•    Weigh the practical considerations and potential barriers that must be overcome to successfully implement and/or analyze programs and processes.
•    Translate program goals and objectives into testable hypotheses.
•    Leverage a wide range of datasets (e.g., health care claims data, electronic health records) to inform and conduct analyses.
•    Identify trends in expenses, utilization, medical quality, and other areas.         
•    Investigate variances in data and derive solutions to quality issues.
•    Apply analytical and statistical software tools to provide data-driven insights to senior team members.
•    Communicate results of analyses to technical and non-technical audiences.
•    Collaborate with team members, including other healthcare statisticians and analysts, to ensure the highest standards of quality data analytics.
•    Provide analytical support for ad hoc data analyses.
