Spurwink is a non-profit organization that responds to community needs by providing behavioral health care, substance use disorder services, and support services for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, as well as their families. \n
Internship Details:\n\nStart Date: Monday, January 5, 2026\nMonday, January 5th through Thursday, January 8th will be fully in-person.\nRemainder of internship is hybrid or remote, depending on where you are attending school.\nEnd Date: Varies from the end of February to March\nHours per week: 8 to 15 hours\nSchedule: We will work around your classes to meet the required hours.\n\n

Responsibilities of the Communication & Marketing Department:\n
The Communications Department provides fundraising, business development, and communications functions for Spurwink. Their work includes increasing support for Spurwink from individuals, corporations, and foundations; identifying opportunities for agency growth; managing the agency's social media presence, including creating posts and tracking metrics; and overseeing all internal and external communications. In addition, the advancement department coordinates logistics for fundraising events and writes and submits grant applications and requests for proposals (RFP's) to private and public funders. \n
Intern Responsibilities:\n
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to assist the Communications team with a diverse range of tasks within their department. You will meet weekly as a cohort to help form camaraderie, share experiences, and learn from knowledgeable Spurwink employees.\n
Requirements:\n\nAbility to commute to the Greater Portland area during the first full week of January.\nHave an interest in Communications\/ Marketing and professional development.\nExperience with Microsoft 365.\nCreate a capstone project sharing educational goals, skills learned, and your experiences.\nAttend an online weekly meeting with a supervisor.\nHave an interest in working for a non-profit organization.\n\n

Qualifications: \n\nCandidates must exhibit enthusiasm for the work in the department and the mission of Spurwink Services.\nMust have strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and critical thinking skills.\n\n
