As an intern at Micron Technology, Inc., you will have the opportunity to work for a global manufacturer of memory devices, one of the few companies to produce silicon chips worldwide. You will work in a state-of-the-art electronics laboratory to perform Side Channel Analysis penetration testing activities on a real world device.
Justification
Side Channel Analysis is a set of techniques that exploit the naturally occurring correlation between processed data and physical variables (power consumption, electro-magnetic emission) to extract a secret key from a target device in a non-invasive way.
Micron is a global company that covers a wide range of markets, ranging from enterprise datacenter, to client PCs, to mobile to automotive. Micron’s products are trusted with data that can be sensitive for privacy, safety or economic reasons; therefore its products need to be tested and resistant against sophisticated attacks like Side Channel Analysis, applying known and future attacks as well as validating proposed mitigations. The candidate will learn the basics of Side Channel Analysis on a training target, and apply Side Channel techniques the company’s product portfolio, implementing the necessary tools to achieve the desired outcome. Finally an architectural analysis of potential solutions will be carried out, enabling the candidate’s work to secure a real world device.

Designs and develops software and firmware tools to collect Side Channel traces from a real world device, implements a Digital Signal Processing pipeline to pre-process the collected traces, implements statistical attacks to assess leakage levels (Test Leakage Vector Assessment) or implement attacks (Correlation Power Analysis). Evaluates architectural solution to mitigate Side Channel Analysis attacks.
