Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in the power industry to apply as well as enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects power plant operation.
The Operational Intern will provide general analytical support for Calpine’s Carbon Capture project, covering many aspects of thermal performance including plant diagnostics, optimization and testing. Interns’ project results will be used to support business decisions for operations as well capital investment projects. Exact projects will be subject to the interns’ individual skills and interests, the following is broad sampling of available business needs.
Job Responsibilities
Develop strong understanding of Calpine Operations Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures. Develop working knowledge of Calpine natural gas combined cycle technical fundamentals. Support interface between project team and plant including coordinating meetings, obtaining plant operating data, and obtaining plant drawings. Support interface between project team and internal Calpine resources including: EHS, Performance Group, Finance and others. Review project engineering documents for purposes of operability, comment and summarize changes required. Participate in project meetings, summarize meeting notes, and provide operability input for plant design.Job Requirements
Pursuing a degree in Process Technology or related field at an accredited college. Completion of at least two semesters of coursework. GPA of 3.0 or higher. Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future. Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to work on elevated platforms up to 80 feet. Ability to climb ladders. Willingness to work outdoors, in field locations, in a "hands on" environment. Willingness to adhere to plant safety standards, procedures, and practices. Good comprehension of basic engineering practices. Good problem solving and analytical ability. Strong computer skills especially in the use of spreadsheet and word processing programs. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good organization skills and attention to details are essential Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others in a dynamic environment.
