**SUMMARY OF POSITION:**
This position will function as a “qualified” medical interpreter and will provide interpreter services for patients, families, staff, visitors, physicians, and others regarding consents, medical treatments, discharges, instructions, and other interpreting needs as well. Also responsible for the process of identifying, prioritizing, and completing translation of documents from English/non-English language, non-English language/English. May also facilitate the translation of documents in other non-English languages as well. Other duties include assisting in problem-solving with patient and family communication needs and proactively identifying opportunities for improving services to our limited or non-English speaking patient and family population.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):**
+ High School diploma or equivalent
+ Interprets Nepali
+ Medical Interpreter Certification or successfully pass the Interpreter Skills Test through and approved education provider of language services.
+ Knowledge of Medical terminology required.
+ Complete at least four (4) hours of continuing education credit hours per year or more to remain qualified and competent in the identified non-English-speaking language.
+ Minimum one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with a strong medical vocabulary Minimum one year in a role that demonstrates the ability to read handwritten typed documents in English and the targeted language, speak clear English and the target language, and write in English and the target language.
+ Minimum one (1) year of experience translating, reading and writing documents in English to the target language within the medical setting with a full command of the English language and knowledge of medical terminology.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):**
+ Associate’s of Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Science field or Language is highly preferred.
